A TEMPORARY Conceptual Space - CONTEMPORARY TEMPORARY

Installation of the sculpture LOVE HATE by Mia Florentine Weiss in front of the Bavarian National Museum

    Invitation to the reception
    on Monday, 8 April 2019, 10:45 a.m.

with Dorothee Bär, Minister of State in the Federal Chancellery, Federal Government Commissioner for Digitization
and the artist Mia Florentine Weiss

In the early morning hours of 8 April, the sculpture LOVE HATE by Mia Florentine Weiss will be erected in front of the facade of the Bavarian National Museum on Prinzregentenstrasse. The placement on the terrace is an intervention and breaks with the habit of seeing commonly associated with the urban ensemble and - depending on one's point of view - enables direct spatial experience.

In front of the arcade of the eastern wing and next to the equestrian monument of Prince Regent Luitpold, the sculptural juxtaposition of extremely contradictory human feelings temporarily stimulates an examination of the museum as a place of emotions. In the museum, masterpieces of European culture are kept, which are often not only based on feelings and illustrate strong feelings, but are also able to trigger them.

There is often only a fine line between culture and non-culture, between preservation and destruction where views and valuations can change. The ambigrams LOVE and HATE now stand close together in front of the museum, by the nature of their current spatial combination in a certain way even disturbingly side by side or behind each other. Last but not least, this particularly provocative correlation can trigger mixed feelings: Like the eastern wing of the museum itself, which was erected in the 1930s for the Bavarian National Museum, but immediately commandeered by the Gestapo after its completion, and which was misused as a depot for expropriated cultural assets and as a planning office for the architectural transformation of Munich into the "capital of movement". With the sculpture LOVE HATE, the museum ensemble becomes a new space for temporary experience and thought.

    Yours sincerely
